This year, I did it. I was finally part of the PHPConf Asia 2018. I have wanted to be a part of it for a few years now. It’s a geek dream, if you will. Even if I no longer code, I still feel and breathe the programming language that made me a web developer. So it was an immense honor to be there, to hear and see the PHP’s founders that still work hard to grow and maintain the programming language concepts and the community around it.
Here are the 10 most important things I personally took away from this year’s conference:
- PHP is aging. Help them if you can.
- Legacy code is still a problem.
- PHP7.3 is faster. It will optimize the code for you.
- JSON and DB can be viewed in the same sentence.
- Reactive programming in PHP.
- PHPUnit premise is still valid. Don’t trust code without tests
- Writing a virus is that hard. Don’t do it.
- Google Cloud is PHP friendly already. Speech, Vision, Video and Pictures.
- GraphQL is new REST. Soon.
- PHP is old. However, PHP is still not marketing ready. Mostly. But we want to be here and we want to grow.
PHP is still here. PHP community is calling for you out there, to join, to contribute and keep it alive. I’m proud to be a part of it and I hope I’ll be there again next year.
